The Work Readiness Academy

Overview: The Work Readiness Academy provides students with a comprehensive employment training experience that incorporates both classroom-based instruction and community-based work-learning experiences. While in the training classroom, students work cooperatively with similar aged peers to learn critical skills related to employment and socialization. Students also work on career exploration and planning, including the development of a person-centered, post-secondary vision and plan with clear goals and action steps. Students also participate in unpaid or paid internships at local community businesses. Program staff remain on-site during the internships to provide and fade support and assistance as needed. Students also participate in field trips focused on career discovery, independent living skills, and independent travel training.

Program Options: Full Time

Grades:
Students who have completed most or all of their high school graduation requirements. Ages 18 to 20.

Student Needs: High school students serviced in UCESC’s Work Readiness program have a variety of disabilities. These disabilities may include, but are not limited to autism spectrum disorders, communication impairments, cognitive impairments, and physical or medical impairments. Students sometimes have multiple disabilities. All students need support with developing and achieving post-secondary transition goals. Most students need support in developing critical skills for future employment. Some students may want to explore continued post-secondary education or training.
