What is Lamberts Mill Academy?

Lamberts Mill Academy, located in Westfield, New Jersey, is an educational program designed for students who require a comprehensive psycho-therapeutic approach in an educational setting. The program offers intensive clinical and psychiatric services as well as a wide range of educational programs aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

What are the school hours?

Lamberts Mill Academy follows a public school calendar.  The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m.  An optional Extended School Year Program is offered to all students for six weeks and hours of operation are 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

What is the Instructional Program?

Students take high school courses as determined by the sending district in cooperation with Lamberts Mill Academy. All courses follow the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. All classes maintain a maximum size of 12 students and are taught by certified special education teachers. 

What is the therapeutic component of the program?

At Lamberts Mill Academy, our therapeutic approach is a comprehensive integrative approach between academic and therapeutic staff as well as the students and their families.  We strive to meet the specific needs of our students and their families using a variety of therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive behavioral Therapy (CBT).  One of our primary objectives is to provide education as a means of reducing the stigma associated with mental health as well as normalizing the classification process associated with an individualized educational plan.  Implementing an array of behavioral and therapeutic interventions is integral in meeting the needs of the students and their families which will assist in fostering an environment in which they can be successful. At Lamberts Mill Academy all students will feel safe, supported and empowered.

What is the Job Academy?

The LMA Job Academy helps select students prepare for community integrated employment. Students participate in weekly Structure Learning Experiences (unpaid internships) at businesses in the community. Students receive on-site coaching from a UCESC support professional. The program provides real-life work experience and job skills training to support a successful transition from school to a productive adult life.

What is the admission process?

Administration and therapists from LMA work closely with school districts to identify and place students who would benefit from this unique therapeutic learning environment. Parents who are interested in learning more about LMA are encouraged to reach out to their school district, as we work closely with district Child Study Teams. Parents or school districts who are interested in exploring the myriad options that LMA offers should contact the main office at 908-233-7581 ext. 450 to set up a tour and/or interview. All interviews and tours are conducted with Child Study Team members, parents, and students.
