Therapeutic Program

At Lamberts Mill Academy, our therap
eutic approach is a comprehensive integrative approach between academic and therapeutic staff as well as the students and their families.  We strive to meet the specific needs of our students and their families using a variety of therapeutic modalities including, but not limited to, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive behavioral Therapy (CBT).  One of our primary objectives is to provide education as a means of reducing the stigma associated with mental health as well as normalizing the classification process associated with an individualized educational plan.  Implementing an array of behavioral and therapeutic interventions is integral in meeting the needs of the students and their families which will assist in fostering an environment in which they can be successful. At Lamberts Mill Academy all students will feel safe, supported and empowered.

Clinical and DBT Program

UCESC and Trinitas Regional Medical Center (TRMC) have been partners for over 30 years.  The clinical team is employed by TRMC but housed at Lamberts Mill Academy (LMA) at all times.  The clinical team is a highly qualified team of experts comprised of 5 full time licensed clinicians, a psychiatrist and a psychiatric nurse.  At LMA every student receives individual therapy at least one time a week and group therapy 5 times a week. On call counseling is provided to all students 5 days a week.  This provides the student the opportunity to de-escalate from a potential crisis situation. The goal is brief, solution focused therapy so the student can be reintegrated back into the classroom.

Clinical services also include a specialized track for Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).  DBT is a cognitive behavioral treatment that was originally developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Research has shown DBT to be effective in reducing suicidal behavior, non-suicidal self-injurious behavior, psychiatric hospitalizations, substance abuse, anger, depression and it also improves social and global functioning.  Individuals are taught 4 sets of behavioral skills during group twice a week.

School Wide Positive Behavioral Support Program

LMA provides a school wide positive behavior support program with the goal to teach skills both academic and behavioral while providing students with the tools to remain in class and be successful. LMA uses a proactive approach to create a social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Students follow a daily point system earning points in each class for displaying appropriate behaviors. This is a rewards based program where students earn points for exhibiting appropriate work behaviors and achieving their academic goals. These points are totaled and presented much like a paycheck on a weekly basis. Students manage their earnings to use for a variety of activities and privileges during the school year. Students are motivated to work to return to class so they can earn points which give them access to reward privileges.
